London for less

“London is so expensive! There is no way you can go there and have a cheap holiday!” This is something that I hear a lot of people say, and I think it is time for people to realise that this does not have to be the case. In this article I will give you various tips on how to have an awesome stay in London, without having to spend loads of money. Continue reading

That special dress

It is the dream of many girls; finding mister (or miss, we’re not judging) right and make a lifelong commitment to him. The honeymoon is booked, table settings have been made, the cake is ordered. The only thing needed to lift this beautiful day to absolute perfection, is the dream dress you have always wanted.

That special dream dress is different for every girl. Some want a coloured dress, some short, some long. The Victoria & Albert museum in London now has an amazing exhibition showing +200 years of wedding couture and I have been there. Continue reading

Steve Mccurry: More than the Afghan girl

The name “Sharbat Gula” does not ring a bell with a lot of people. When shown her photo, most of them will instantly recognize her as “The Afghan girl from National Geographic”. Sharba Gula was photographed in 1984 in a refugee camp near Peshawar in Pakistan. Photographer Steve McCurry instantly became world famous with this portrait, that is not only a symbol for the Afghan War (1979-1989), but for refugees all over the world. There is so much more about his work though

The big move

Hey guys!

It has been quiet here for a couple of days, so I thought an update was in order. The reason for this is because I have been extremely busy with moving and finals.
Moving you say? Yes, I used to live in my old high school, on an anti squatting base (to prevent the building from becoming a place for junkies to hang out) and it was great.

A dash of colour

As the temperature drops, the days begin to shorten and the weather slowly becomes worse, it is a clear sign that autumn is coming. People hurry to the warmth of their house instead of enjoying the last few warm rays of sunshine. Scarfs and hats slowly make their appearance and an umbrella becomes a neccesary accessoire.

Although Autumn often represents the cold setting in and rain as a main weather condition, it thankfully brings a lot of beauty as well. Trees look amazing with all their colours, especially on the days where the sun shines. “Colourful” is probably the word I would use to describe autumn, the general feel of autumn easily makes me forget about the bad things of the season.

“Colourful” is also the word that is often used to describe the works of Leonid Afremov. When I was browsing the web in search of autumn related artwork, I stumbled upon his paintings and I just had to share them with you.

Song of the week: Survivor

In the category “personal things that I love and want to share”, music plays a massive role. Music is something that is always there, no matter what your mood is. My spotify list consists of so many different things, people find it hard to believe that it was made by me. From 90s pop music, to classical piano music, followed by shrieking guitars of a heavy metal song, I love it all.

Every week I will post a song that has been important to me, whether it has given me support, or just because I liked listening to it. Although this post will be very personal, I will try to show you a varied range of music.

This weeks song: Survivor by Destiny’s Child.
I was about 10 years old when the song came out and I loved it back then, but it took me years to understand the true meaning of it (Remember, I am Dutch, so the lyrics did not make a lot of sense to me back then). This week some drama happened in my life and it upset me a lot, but I finally saw the light and realised that sometimes you should ban people out of your life in order to move on. That is exactly what I did and I felt so much better. This song is a reminder for everyone who is struggling, that sometimes you should let go and you will overcome your struggle and it will make you stronger.

I hope this can serve as an inspiration to some, even if it just a trip down memory lane and remembering how awesome the early 2000’s were.

A new start!

Hello readers

2014 has been such an eventful year for me, I don’t even know where to begin. That’s not really important, all that matters is that I have decided to be more dedicated to ARTRESTING and to try and keep up with posting things.

The site has a new look and it is time to make a fresh start, on both personal and professional level. The content of ARTRESTING will change a bit; I have decided to make it a bit more personal and not only focus on art, but also on history, culture and other things that I like. I will however try to make it as interesting as possible to read, so don’t worry, this will not turn into a personal “rant website”, we have twitter for that ;-)

I look forward to share more things with you and if you have any suggestions on how to improve the site, or things you would like to see on here, please let me know =)

Be inspired!
